Comment: Went here with my wife on a Saturday and got the brunch. Its $45 per person. For that amount you can choose 2 dishes on the menu. Ambiance is nice but expensive for what I got. Cant even include the latte I ordered in that price. The dishes is ok but not great for what youre paying.

Comment: Ramos House Cafe was our first stop in San Juan Capistrano, on a Tuesday in April. It was a beautiful spring day and the al fresco seating of the cafe was perfect. We were greeted by amazing service. We ordered the apple beignets, crab hash with a side of fresh biscuits, and americano. Everything was delicious. Freshly made is an understatement. I cant wait to be back!

Comment: Possibly the best brunch in South OC. You pick a small plate and a large and they are all absolutely delicious. Their cocktails are also famous like their bloody which could be its own breakfast; add the scotch egg! My favorites are the huckleberry coffee cake, lox plate, truffle Mac n cheese, beef stew, and now the truffle fava bean hummus and shrimp tomato bisque as well! Always a treat here with the fabulous service and quaint rustic atmosphere too.

Comment: Oh, what a spot for friends to meet and catch up! I LOVED how warm it was despite the weather but the bathroom is quite the statement, as is the whole spot’s decor! With little birdies and plenty of food per portion, my friends and I shared everything and got very full! Loved it so much! Thank you!

Comment: I have been to this restaurant twice, after my first visit I couldn’t wait to come back ! I loved the uniqueness of the restaurant, the food was excellent, and my mom and I had a great experience. Both times I have been there they have had their brunch for $45 you get a “small” plate which is a good portion and a large plate which both times I have ordered the Flannel hash and both times it has been delicious. The reason for my 4 star reviews is that the second time I visited I came with my two kids, and my husband. We drove from san Diego so my husband could try the place and I loved how there’s a play area for the kids in front of the restaurant. I asked if they had kids menus or if the kids (6 and 7y/o) could share something . I was told the kids also had to pay the $45 dollars we decided to still eat there because we had had a long drive. For the kids $45 we got an orange juice and breaded chicken and for my son orange juice and macaroni noodles with some cheese ! Just for the kids meals it was $90!!!! And the kids did not enjoy their meals and left most of it. Being that the restaurant in a place where there are a lot of families with kids I would think that the kids options would be better and a decent price . Even if they charged $20 for the kids meal I feel they would still make a decent profit I can’t imagine the pasta costing more than a couple of dollars to make and the chicken also. $45 PER KID was ridiculous for what we got.

Comment: This is a really cool spot for a destination brunch or lunch. The menu concept is exceptional, there is something for everyone and every diet. The cocktails are delicious. The plating of the food is beautiful. Everything we ordered was under seasoned except for the Bloody Mary and the Scotch Quail Egg. As a Chef, the one lesson that sticks with me the most is when my Chef told me he would rather have his menu over seasoned than under.

Comment: I can’t say enough great things about Ramos house. They are such a timeless and historic place to visit and their food is always incredible. The staff is excellent from the top down, and their apple butter is the best! The brunch on the weekends is a fixed price, and it is sure to be crowded. I’d recommend showing up early for a spot at the table, no reservations are taken prior, or otherwise you might be waiting a while. Coffee, mimosas and other alcoholic beverages are great, also one of the few places you can find unique menu items, like quail egg. Enjoy!!

Comment: Place gets docked a star because I was told I could make a reservation and did and then waited 45 mins because I couldn’t make a reservation. Other than that staff is lovely and the food is phenomenal.Get the crab hash/hush puppies/dumpling soup. Amazing amazing quality. It is worth the price in my opinion the portions are not tiny but very normal sized. I didn’t finish everything I ordered either. Highly recommend and brunch is a small/large plate and yes it’s $45. Still worth it in this cute lil town. Make sure you look at where to park before arriving if you’re unfamiliar!

At first we pass by the restaurant at 10am and there were lots of people waiting already. So the next day we visit the restaurant at 9am which has no wait. The restaurant required every customer to take set meal cost $45 for 2 dishes. We like the meal but hardly finish it as 2 main dish for 9am is quite a lot.The restaurant limit sitting time for 2 hour. But due to the queue that built up, they seems to rush us to finish up.The decorations is really lovely and the train passing make it more so.

Comment: Finally got to try to eat at Ramos House and I was not disappointed! They do not take reservations, and they do have a 90 minute time limit per party. It is first come first serve and it is difficult getting in.The food was absolutely amazing. We started off with the Scotch Quail Egg and it was such a great bit. The mixture of textures and the perfect amount of savory and acidity blended so well. Our next dish was the cinnamon apple beignet, and wow. The inside texture is not similar to other beignets I have had where it is more like a donut. The beignet had a soft bite to it, where it was more like a blend of bread and custard. I can imagine the caramel being too sweet for some, but you can adjust to your liking. The best part for me was the mixture of condense milk and caramel that you can slurp up after you finish the beignets! On to the main courses!Chicken and waffle- the chef did a great job at trying to not make the flavor get “boring” by adding in several layers of additional tastes through the apples, chili maple (this does have a decent kick but not spicy) and the arugula. The portion was much larger than we expected, tons of chicken and 4 waffles! The chicken batter was also very different where it was flavorful and has an amazing crunch that lasts even after it gets cold.Beef Stew- the chef also did another great job at not making the flavor repetitive here with the blue cheese mash. The blue cheese cuts through the stew and adds complexity in flavor where it is needed. The best part of this dish is that the beef was so tender and just falls apart! The last thing we are here was with the Peach Ice cream. The ice cream was not super creamy, but the peach flavor came through very well. I enjoyed the chunks of peaches that were mixed in. The almond basket cookie was very crunchy, and had a hint of almond flavor. This all came together with caramel and it was a great way to top off our brunch!

Comment: A great place for Sunday brunch. The brunch is a set menu with a small and large plate. There is a wonderful selection of approximately seven items of each plate size. The food is excellent. The restaurants ambiance is that of old town Southern California centered on an old ranch house with lots of shade for the outdoor seating. Be prepared for a long relaxed sit as it took quite a while for each course to arrive, but this wasnt an issue for us as we enjoyed the atmosphere of the cafe.

Comment: A bit on the pricey side, and the wait of one hour for my food was a bit ridiculous with only 5 small dishes and 5 large dishes. The price was $45 dollars a piece without a drink. One of the dishes was a crab cake hash. The wasabi butter was a really weird combination with this plate. Overall, everything was plated very well, but the taste was sub par and didnt match the plating.

Comment: What a unique restaurant right next to the Metrolink station in San Juan Capistrano! If I had known, I wouldve taken the train down from LA to do a day trip in this town and eat here. I loved the fact that there are tables right next to the tracks so youll see trains come and go throughout the meal and its something to enjoy watching because you dont really get to appreciate it while driving constantly. My family and I came and dined their set brunch menu on a Saturday. The wait time was about 30-45 minutes so we walked around the area and sat down in the shade. We each ordered different items and each had their own particular taste. I dont remember what my family ordered but I ordered the Mac & cheese dish, which turned out to be a too greasy for me but had great flavor. Honestly, everything looked amazing and tasted great; Im just an exception because I have sensitive taste buds. Anything thats too salty or sweet isnt for me and given that this is an American style restaurant, everything seemed too salty to me. Id still come back and enjoy the view and order something different next time.

Comment: When we arrived we were told a 10 minute wait….. 45 minutes later… still nothing! However, there were 2 tables that had been cleared and reset and sat empty. When I asked- they responded” oh, we are not ready for you”…..we waited another 5 minutes and finally left- totally dissatisfied with their lack of customer service.

Comment: This place is fantastic. The black truffle mac and cheese, homemade biscuit and bacon scramble were all delicious. The desserts left a little to be desired but a huge part of that was how incredible the rest of the food was. The service was friendly and efficient without being overbearing and the dining room was charming. It was a little expensive but absolutely worth it. Will definitely return 👍.Update: After several visits, this place is still fantastic. The Mac and cheese, bacon scramble and Scotch egg were just as good as the first time I tried them. The strawberry basil french toast was phenomenal. The service was, as always near perfect. Ive been bringing all my fellow foodies here since my first visit and this place never misses. Keep it up!

Comment: I was shocked at at the poor quality of the service at a seemingly upscale restaurant. It took almost 30 minutes to take our order and then another 60 for our food, the waitresses were impatient, curt, and dismissive with us. What made our experience worse is that other guests were being treated with a lot of courtesy and attentiveness. We were really made to feel like we weren’t welcome, including several mistakes with no apology. The food was tasty although I lost my appetite.

Comment: Pros:- great service/staff- location and touches (blankets,heaters)- small plate desserts are fabulousCons:- long wait times (upwards of an hour and since its manual, youve to physically check to see how slow/fast youre moving)- average large plates- $$-$$$As described on their website, its a small house backyard converted into a cafe w 20 some table. Hence only outdoor seating, but heated patio and they provide blankets for cold days! Easy access + a restroom. No street parking outside, however the free lot is within .25m distance. Because of its cozy and unique location (Amtrak rail-line behind), the restaurant has a unique/ eclectic ambience and makes for a great tourist brunch spot!We went in for weekend brunch, w is priced at $40 p person and includes one small, one large plate. They also customize/modify to accommodate dietary needs (vegan/vegetarian). No online reservations or wait-listing for weekends, walk-ins only. This is the only drawback because the wait times can get over 1hr long, even if you stop by around 9.30-10am. But Ive found the staff to be incredibly friendly and well organized, theyre keeping an eye out on all tables and waitlisters, working diligently to keep the place running smoothly. We got apple beignet (delicious), coffee cake (is dry and crumbly, so advise to pair w coffee or some beverage), orange fizz w basil sorbet (like it, slightly bitter), pomegranate juice (decent), flannel hash w well done scrambled eggs (so-so) and crab cake. We loved the small plates and felt the large plates feel short in flavor and overall appeal, but not bad overall.Overall a great experience, amazing quantity, but a little steep on the pocket for brunch.

Comment: Hands down an absolute gem. Ive been very critical of places especially with did quality. However, Ramos was so good taking classic food with a simple twist. I had the beef stew with blue cheese mash potatoes. This was so delightful creamy and tender beef chunks. The mash was a really nice surprise and very tasty twist. The Atmosphere was really quaint homey feeling the staff were very friendly and helpful with menu. This place is a must go more than once, I will definitely headed back. The only downside this place is busy all the time, my advice get there early.

Comment: Well, this was my first and last visit...it wasnt all bad though:Pros:Patio is very nice and cozy (best part)Food is not bad, but...see belowCons:-Price! $40 a person! You would expect more than two items or even free coffee, but any drink is extra!-The current selection of items you get should, at most, be $25 per person.- The Hukleberry coffee cake was stale, kind of hardened and the berries tasted fermented (maybe a fluke, but still)- lux was under cured, kind of raw.- Peach Paine perdu is just sliced buggett with reduced peach sauceSuggestion to owner:-Give free coffee, ok up to two free ones, then charge. Maybe add at least one memosa!-Add one more courseAppetizer, main dish, then dessert dishes- Take down the sign that tells people to only stay 1.5 hrs! For $40 a person and a Brunch, I stay as long as I need.

Comment: Ramos House Cafe came highly recommended by the front desk at The Inn at The Mission, San Juan Capistrano. My wife and I have enjoyed many great breakfasts while traveling, but our meal here may have been the best. My lox with toast points was like no order of lox over ever had before. Absolutely delicious. And the crab cakes and eggs my wife enjoyed could have fed us both. And all in such a quaint and rustic setting. Highly recommend.

Comment: Located in Old SJC. You cannot park at the restaurant. You need to park in the park lot and its less than a 5 minute walk and its free. Waited about 20 min on an early Saturday afternoon.Restaurant is super cute. We sat in the patio that is covered and has individual umbrellas at each table. Perfect OC weather day.$40 per per brunch on Sat. Ordered the bloody Mary. While the presentation was great I wasnt a fan. A little salty for my taste and could have been spicier.Biscuits are amazing. Light, buttery, give me more. Chicken and dumplings were tasty too. More dumplings please. Crab hash and bacon scramble was delicious. By this time I was full though and brought half of it home. My husbands pot roast was sooo good!!! I think I make a good pretty good pot roast but this one is so much better. And the bleu cheese mashed potatoes dont hurt either.Highly recommend visiting this small business. Food is great, service is friendly. You wont be disappointed. FYI not the place to go if youre in a rush so relax and enjoy.

Comment: Ramos is such an incredible place to dine that we make the journey to eat there on a frequent basis. The uniquely pleasant and relaxing environment only adds to the top-tier service of their staff, that greet every customer, we have noticed, with a smile and friendly conversation. We have never had to wait for our delicious coffee, which Ramos purchases from another local coffee house, to be warmed and refilled. The Owner does not force the staff to wear masks, which provides a very friendly environment. It was interesting to notice that if a customer requested that their server wear a mask, then the server would politely do so.The staff are quick to clean & sanitize each table immediately after customers leave. The selection and quality of food is absolutely incredible. Very flavorful and well presented. It is hard to imagine such freshness, presentation and flavor being offered at such reasonably great prices, and in such an inviting environment. We highly recommend Ramos. It’s certainly worth our drive to dine there, and you won’t be disappointed either.

Comment: Fairly new to the area and looking for a good brunch spot. Had seen good reviews, and impressive presentation and was not deterred by price ($35 prixe fixe menu on weekends) or wait times. Waited about 30min to be seated around 10:30 Sat morning. And then waited. Probably did not get our drinks until at least 30 min after being seated. And they weren’t good. Coffee not better than any diner and Bloody Mary while being pricier than most was fairly small and not good. Had a weird sort of seafood type after taste. And the shrimp on it was very, very sad and limp looking. We didn’t eat it to avoid risk of food poisoning. I ordered pain pardu, and hubs got beignets as our small plate. Both were good. Beignets did not have much flavor. The paid pardu was very good and honestly the only bright spot of the meal. For our large plate we got the crab cakes and lox. I was very confused when I got the lox. Lox insinuates bagels/cream cheese and smoked salmon in my mind. This was served carpaccio style with crostini. No bagel, no cream cheese. Hard boiled egg diced up on top. Just ok. The crab cake was literally inedible. First off it’s covered in onions which is not at all noted. My husband does not like onions. They were also permeating the eggs, and from what we could tell, all the egg dishes appeared to have this issue. The eggs were also squishy and rubbery. The crab cake was very, very low quality and mostly breading. What most impressed me about the food was how poor quality it was. The service was very lackluster as well. The seafood was not fresh and questionable, and the eggs were super light colored yolks. It’s very cute and has great ambiance, and the pain pardu was really good, which is why I gave it 2 stars. But the $35 brunch is ridiculous for what you get. I don’t write negative restaurant reviews lightly as I love the restaurant industry and supporting it, but this experience literally left a bad taste in our mouth through the afternoon. I doubt we will bother to return despite it being nearby.

Comment: Ramos House Cafe is my favorite restaurant in Southern California. The location alongside the tracks across from the San Jan Capistrano station is a perfect place to have breakfast or lunch--generally the only meals served here. The food is made here, really made here and its amazing. From Crab Hash with Smoked Bacon Scrambled Eggs and Citrus Cream (my favorite) to Pain Perdue with seasonal fruit to Duck Mac and Cheese to Beef Stew with Bleu Cheese Mash, youll feel the warm comfort of California and the South all rolled into one. Dont forget the warm Cinnamon Apple Beignets with some coffee to start off or finish up. I prefer coming on weekdays when the menu is a la carte; on the weekends its the same menu but brunch only (2 courses--small plate and large plate). Its delicious but a lot of food.If you care about food and expect it to be crafted with care, with delightful flavor combinations full of comfort and enjoyed in an idyllic and historical Southern California locale, mosey across the tracks in San Juan Capistrano and pull up a chair at Ramos House Cafe.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere in culture of this restaurant cant wait to come back and share with othersFrom the beginning you know its going to be an experience and it was hard for me to only slept two items from the menu. I ended up getting John soup and the bacon scrambler. I was very glad of my choices and definitely enjoyed both plates. When it comes to parking this is not the best restaurant so make sure you come way ahead of time so you dont run late. This place gets five stars from me!

Comment: One of the best breakfast places in the entire area. Breakfast includes a sweet served before the main dish (a bit strange) but the selections are creative and interesting. Heating in the outdoor space makes it quite pleasant. Food is good but not amazing.

Comment: The restaurant was in an open area and it was so cold. They offered blankets but it didnt help much. The heaters were located in an area where no one can feel the heat. They should have standing heaters everywhere so people can at least enjoy eating their food. Coffee got cold quickly too.

Comment: Quaint little weathered old wood house in Old Town San Juan now a restaurant across the tracks from the red brick train station. Wonderful outdoor patio seating. Typical Cafe fare with a bit of Mexican flare. Items a little pricey, but well worth the casual experience with the trains pulling in and out of the station. The kids will love it. A nice addition for breakfast/brunch before your visit to the mission.

Comment: Im visiting from Oklahoma and staying with friends in the SJC area. I googled a spot to get late breakfast and was led here! Besides being nestled in the most charming place on earth, the food blew me away! I had huevos rancheros, and honestly felt like it came from the kitchen in 1881. Served in an iron skillet, cooked to perfection with the freshest ingredients. Many of which are snipped from their garden. Im so impressed! Wonderful and happy Associates, and a comforting and charming environment. Im honestly having trouble leaving.

Comment: SO CUTE!! I had a bloody Mary with a scotch quails egg on top, a biscuit with apple butter mmm and a scrambled something. They change the menu every day apparently and they use fresh fancy ingredients. We sat in a little shaded nook with a bit of sunshine poking through overlooking the train tracks and bird watched. I never leave reviews but... This place is adorable. Its in a little neighborhood of other cute little houses that are businesses. Theres a petting zoo just around the corner and a coffee shop. So you can walk around and see all the sights after you eat or have a drink. Oh! My guy had the orange Mimosa which was also delicious. A very nice way to spend a slow birthday afternoon. This review doesnt even do it justice. Go here.

Comment: This is by far the cutest spot I have ever experienced. A mans house where he serves incredible breakfast, lunch and brunch out of his small kitchen to his patrons on his patio. Built in 1881, you literally take a step back in time. Well worth the drive. Afterwards, take a leisurely wall down the street and visit the other small homes hosting a variety of arts, crafts, coffee and more. Near the mission and next to the Amtrak Surfliner. You can literally make this a beach city trip for the weekend. Just pick your stops...

Comment: Just about the best/coolest spot for Breakfast and Lunch in South OC. The food is so delicious. They usually offer a brunch menu with a starter, main and dessert of some type... It includes a house cocktail or mimosa. Its always going to be busy... theres always going to be people hanging out in front Just walk up to the hostess stand, put your name on the list and ask them if you can hop on the house deck with the comfy chairs with a mimosa or coffee while you wait.Try this place if youve never been! 👍

Comment: We went on weekend so you pay 35 dollars for a small plate and large plate. About 10 choice for small plate and about 10 for large plate. Server was nice. It took a while to get our large plate but the small plate came in a timely manner. The presentation of food was really nice. The food was good but I am not sure it was 35 dollars worth. It was a cozy place. My husband got a kick out of the bathroom. Check it out. I dont think I will go there again but I might recommend to try it once.

Comment: My family and I had a great brunch experience here. It is expensive; lets get that straight, but you definitely get what you pay for. The food is amazing and the ingredients taste as fresh as can be. The table service was extremely attentive also. The best part, for my wife and I, was the atmosphere. Its definitely a unique dining experience. If youre nearby, you HAVE to try this place.

Comment: In 3 words, delicious, real, authentic. The food served here is real food like you would cook at home. Nothing tastes like it came out off the back of a truck-it all tastes like it was freshly prepared with the best ingredients...as all food should. The atmosphere is quiet, laid back, and attentive at the same time. This is one of the few rare meals I have eaten that I can honestly and undoubtedly say I will come back without hesitation. Dont miss this gem if you are in SJC.

Comment: A unique gem tucked away next to the train tracks in San Juan Capistrano. The atmosphere is full of rustic charm with lots of reclaimed wood, plants, & brick floors. Seating is outdoors only but is mostly covered and there are blankets available if it gets chilly. The food is some of the best and most unique in Orange county at any price point, portions are generally generous and every dish is photo worthy. The smoked bacon scramble and the beef stew are my personal favorites. Keep in mind it is a private residence and they are only open until 3pm.

Comment: Overrated and overhyped. $35/person excluding drinks. The Bloody Mary was a huge disappointment. First time we had it, it was a work of art that included a large crab claw, quail egg and some veggies. This time it was a shrimp, quail egg and overstuffed with waxy green beans.Food was average but for the cost, it was not worth it.Suggest you try the other places within Rios district. Food quality might be the same but at least its not gonna bleed your wallet dry.

Comment: This would have been a 5 star review, but there were some changes that bothered us. They no longer have a vegetarian option like they did before and this was the reason we went back there today. We tried to substitute other sides to accommodate our vegetarian eater and they didnt allow any substitutions. We didnt have our kids with us today, but we were still a little bothered by the sign on the table telling us to silence your phones and children when the restaurant is right next to a busy train station. Dont get me wrong, the food is delicious and thats why we came back, but the overall experience was not great today.

Comment: The weekends are only the prix fixe brunch, $44 per person plus tax and tip was about $60 per person. That said, it was delicious, a nice setting and the food was great. I had the duck confit and mushroom mac and cheese and roasted berries with custard and coffee.Pro-tip-park at the train station and dont go driving down the road like an idiot like I did. Theres no parking by the restaurant and nowhere do they suggest where you should park.

Comment: Ramos House has one of my top 5 breakfasts in OC. The bacon scramble is beyond belief. I never knew an egg scramble could taste so good. You have to try their house sauce with it, its so good and I wish I knew what they put in the sauce. The prices are kind of high, but you are definitely paying for quality dining (I think its cheaper on weekdays whereas weekends have a fixed menu). Also, the restaurant is in a really cute little cottage, and it feels like youre eating on someones patio. Its very quaint and intimate. And its right next to the railroad tracks so you can watch the trains go by while you eat. Ramos House is so special that its really a place you have to experience to understand. Would definitely come back.

Comment: I read a review that a critic considered this place possibly the best breakfast in the country. Clearly I was skeptical. As a scout for great breakfast venues, I tried it out prior to touring the San Juan Capistrano Mission. The atmosphere and the simple attention to detail with food and setting has me contemplating lifes fine pleasures. The creative, delicious take on lox and toast points hooked me on a return trip the next morning. A highlight item for me was the Scotch Quail Egg. Go—yet heed the purveyors request to silence your phone and enjoy conversation, the meal, and the environment. You will not regret it.

Comment: Brunch is always excellent and service is consistent at this charming and historic 1800s house that was transformed into an eatery by chef John Humphreys. Dining is out in the shaded patio and the porch. The location is next to a train track and Metro stop. They can get busy so be prepared to put your name down and take a 30 minute stroll if you come at peak hours. Parking is available at the nearby park or public parking structure across the train tracks.

Comment: Priced a little high for what you get. We had brunch ($44.00 ea), the day was beautiful, the people who work there are very nice. Our starters were doughnuts and coffee cake. They were very good. Next my wife had Mac and cheese, they made it with tater tots, very confusing. I had beef stew, they decided to use tater tots instead of potatoes, I guess some people like that but half of the stew was tater tots. We dont plan to go back.

Comment: The food was okay. But it felt like a cheap tourist trap of a restaurant in a nice area. The food is good, but it doesnt help continue the atmosphere that the rest of Los Rios brings about. The reason you come to a place like this is for the atmosphere, and this has very little. It is fun watching the train go by.
