Comment: Part of the OC Parks system, its a wonderful place for camping or just day use. There are hiking trails, a playground, portable bathrooms (the real ones are perpetually broken), and a nature center. The grounds are very well maintained, and the hiking trails are magnificent. Ive been here a few different times with the YMCA Adventure Guides program. Update: the Juaneño Trail was closed as of fall 23.

Comment: We stayed in #9 of Ortega Flats Campground! This place is amazing! We are only 30 mins from here, but felt like we traveled for hours to get away. There is no water, but electricity is up and running! Bathrooms are portable, but cleaned every few days! They are also a quick walk from any site! The staff were fantastic and friendly! Wood was easy to purchase and readily available!Overall a great experience! Down one star due to seemingly still paying full price even though water isnt running, should be lowered a bit per night as the perk is not available. Many privately owned campgrounds and hotels would do this, why wouldnt the state?

Comment: Location is great but water was not available when we camped. If u prep accordingly, the experinece is decent. Restrooms were not working either but they are not walkable as they are central in the park and the campgrounds are a bit dispersed. Most spots provided shade for summer camping and temperatures were cool in the night. Overall, not bad.

Comment: Nice grounds. Dump station. Very reasonable cost. Water was not available during this visit. A chance of seeing a mountain lion roaming. Saw one during a past stay. Have stayed numerous nights in the past several years. This time, people in the 2 sites next to us were partying and being disruptive until midnight. Very disappointing experience. I do, however, intend to return and will reserve a spot in the Ortega Flats section.

Comment: A very nice park with a lot of wildlife (squirrels, birds, rabbits). Had a wonderful 2 night stay, but for some reason the water is off. A great value spot in OC that’s right down the road from San Juan Capistrano and Mission Viejo. 25-30 min from the coast, but the temps were very pleasant.

Comment: We love this park for its kid-friendly nature center and playground. I was frustrated during our recent visit by large and noisey crowds surrounding our site. Also, the entrance attendandt was unhelpful and disrespectful when trying to figure out how to get our guest, who had a third car, into the park. The answer was easy- just get a day pass to drop off equipment and leave the car outside the park overnight, but the attendant wont offer that up- hell just say, sites at capacity, cant come in. On another note, the volunteer in the nature center was a pleasure and enriched our visit.

Comment: Stayed in space 9 of the Ortega Flats Campground for two nights in May 2023. This was our first time staying here. Ortega Flats is the only camping area at Caspers with any utility hook-ups. The campground was clean, space 9 was large and had a lot of shade. Water was not turned on and there is no septic hook-up at all so all we had was an electric hook-up. They do have a dump station by the front gate. Ortega Flats Campground is right next to Ortega Highway and there was some road noise during the day but it was quiet at night. Caspers Wilderness Park is huge - we drove to explore the other areas. There are other camping areas further from the road that dont have any utility hook-ups. The area is very pretty. We had a good time - Id stay here again.

Comment: Amazing first time here and even better its only 30 min away from home . We stayed at Ortega flats campsite 13 its the first campsite but top 2 at Ortega flats in my opionion . Campsite 7 was amazing. Website said water was turned off but it wasnt . That was a plus . For 26$ a night with electrical hookups you can not beat the price . We will be coming back in a few weeks because the kids had so much fun. Only downfall was the nature center was closed even when hours showed opens at noon . Kids were bumbed but still enjoyed ourselves . Also really good playground for the kids and parents if your like me and play as well

Comment: Great hiking trails. I recommend the Juaneno Trail. Its an easy 2.68 mile one way trail and you see amazing bluff cliffs to your left and so much cactus! Ive never been on a trail with so much cactus. It was like a cactus wonderland. If you decide to hike on the Badger Pass Trail, there is no shade and it is very steep. I think its worth it though for the views you get. They also have a wonderful Nature Center and a few souvenirs for purchase. $3.00 for a day use pass. I went during a weekday and only saw three people on the trail. Bring lots of water as it gets hot in this park not just during the summer months. Enjoy!

Beautiful camp sites, trails and wildlife. The nature center is wonderful with star gazing parties at night. My wife and I have 4 adult children and two 11 year old twins. Yeah, that was a shocker at the time. We like taking our twins to Caspers. The boys love it.

Comment: This area is a convenient location in South Orange County. The camp sites are nice with water and fire pits. The bathrooms are port-o-potties.Still within ear shot of the Ortega Highway, but far enough away to enjoy some natural space.Got harassed a bit by the park rangers upon entrance because our group (5 young families with kids 6yrs and under) reserved 5 sites next to each other. Apparently they were very concerned that wed be disturbing the other campers..? I think it was just a weird park ranger though.

Comment: Beautiful camping park that has electrical hook ups for RVs, tent camping with fire rings and BBQ grills, day use area for a picnic or hike, a nature center with observation deck, beautiful wildlife and a playground for the kids. I will share that this is a dry camp location right now as they have NO WATER THROUGHOUT THE PARK! NO DOGS PERMITTED so leave them at home. This is a County facility so your State pass will not work here. Wildlife include Rattlesnakes, Mule Deer, Mountain Lions, Coyote, Bobcat, different birds, insects, and many more. Keep aware of your surroundings and notify the Park Ranger if you require assistance.

It is truly a magical place and provides opportunities to be away from the distractions of the world to commune with nature. Comment: For a 40ft RV the spots are so cramped that you cant even park a second car in them. And theres no water. They close the gates at 8pm and you cant come in or come out until 7am. Super annoying. They wont even let you have a 3rd car or friends or guests come visit and spend the night because theyll try to make them book another camping spot which theyre always sold out of. You cant have a car over night unless you booked a whole camping site for it which is annoying because our relatives in town couldnt even visit longer than 7pm then had to leave. They wont even let you in the park for over 30 minutes free, they make you pay a fee to enter Everytime. The rangers at the gate give you weird looks Everytime you enter. Very annoyed with our stay.

Comment: Nice and quiet trails on the weekdays, the start trails are just ok very family accessible but the side trails and cut thru trails are really cool. The Loskorn trail in particular was fantastic it is neat and narrow ledge along cliff side, very peaceful and had a bonus bench on the cliff side with a great view of Santiago peak and the saddleback ridge in general. Side trails are where it’s at. Really cool.

Comment: Love getting out from all the noise and going to this quaint wilderness park at the edge of Orange County. We normally go just for a few hours to relax and refresh. Many folks love their campsites (they were all full). On this particular trip, we found the best place to park in the midst of some amazing shade from their Oak trees. For an hour and a half, we didn’t do anything. Just enjoyed the cool shade on a warm summer day in the midst of nature. Later on, I played some frisbee with my son and we had a blast. My wife just read her book and relaxed through out the afternoon. Earlier, we visited the Nature Center that’s on the top of the short hill. It gives expansive 360 degree view of the park and the surrounding countryside. Worth going just for the view. We would certainly go back and find some moments of peace and harmony with nature at this park.

Comment: 06/13/21Stayed here for 1 night at spot 41 and it was just lovely! Lots of trees and plenty of room for 2 cars, several tents. The site did not have much of a view but was in close proximity to the restrooms. The restrooms were clean with soap, and nice free showers! If staying in the lower part of the camp, it is very cramped, little shade, and there are only single port-a-potties. Lots of hiking trails ranging from easy paved to difficult equestrian paths. Windmill hike is about 1 mile following the paved road, very easy and nice restrooms at the destination. Will come back again to visit the nature center next time.

Comment: $26 or 27 dollar for electric 30 amp (some have 50 amp I believe) and water hook up, dump free on site per night. Beautiful surroundings with lots of big shady trees. We just got lucky someone canceled when we made our reservation. I was told they have spots with no electricity on the other side for $20 a night. No pull thru that I saw. I suggest calling and making your reservation way in advance. Pay at the time you make your reservation. Beautiful park 🏞️. No dogs allowed. .

Comment: Visited here for *day use* 11/2020 with one horse (ok pony actually) and picnicking.Fabulous day use area for Equestrians, youll be in the Old Corral picnic area, under the vintage windmill. Lovely huge turnout corral, and many pipe stalls available, attached in groups of 2 in the Equestrian day use area. Smallish- approx only 10x 10 pipe but fine for day use. Water spigots available. Hitching posts available. Nice clean bathroom right there. Picnic tables available. Trails for miles and yes horses are allowed on all the trails.(no other pets allowed in Caspers btw)Ample shade from beautiful oak trees so I didnt use the EZup I brought with.Literally nobody else was there with any horses the day we went, and only a scattered handful of nice families and hikers who enjoyed petting our pony. She made lots of friends.Next time we will try overnight camping, since there is a separate horse camping area!

Comment: The campsites my group rented and the surrounding ones where surprisingly clean, as where the bathrooms. Unexpectedly had cell service and the only thing i coule possibly say bad would be the rodents where near my site but that was because i was right next to the bathroom and trash can. Only saw them at night and as long as you keep your site clean and dont leave anything they would want to get into they wont bother you. All around a pleasant camping experience.

(its currently closed due to the pandemic, but you could still walk up the hill and enjoy the view) We went there in late June, still had nice time picnicking but were only able to do very short hike due to the heat. Comment: I hiked down Juaneño trail, which was described as moderate. The trail was along and/or inside the dried up river bed for 2.5 miles and then took a slight incline. I turned around at 3.1 mile where I ran into a rattlesnake who hid in the bushes next to a narrow path creating a racket so I was worried about sneaking by. Im not sure why would anyone describe it as a moderate hiking trail: its flat and hopelessly boring.

Comment: We went here for our annual family photos. Entrance is $5 for the day. No rules were given. At the end of our session (90 minutes) a female park ranger approached us and told us we aren’t allowed to walk on any of the oak tree roots. Okay? So, what about your picnic tables, hikers, and play areas where people were walking all over the roots? (Side note: my parents have a 200 year old oak tree in their front yard & people walk all over the roots. Oak tree roots are DEEP and strong, hence the idioms using oak trees..Their oak tree is very healthy.) The comment by the park ranger was ridiculous. The place is very dry and why anyone would camp here is unknown. Worst choice for our pictures this year and awful camping location.

I went toward the hiking area ate lunch under a tree and they went for my hike. It was just your normal Rocky hike path some vegetation on each side very little amount of flowers. On top of the hill they did have the nature center that was also very nice has a large collection of flowers and a great view. Inside they did have a ranger that could explain certain animals to you a little shop that sold some stuff and they had a movie about the park. Comment: Rule that is enforced by rangers: no hammocks allowed.Allowed: loud noise at anytime, throwing eggs, kids with no pants or underwear, pooping into a bucket in campsite, urinating anywhere (seen this the most). But dont hang a hammock! Have camped here many times and this place never fails to disappoint.

Comment: Ronald W Caspers County Park is a great place to hike, bike, or picnic and just enjoy a day outdoors. The park has camping including group camping sites, family camping sites and RV electrical hookups including a dump station. There are bike trails equestrian trails, hiking trails, a playground showers and restrooms. In addition, there are barbecues and fire rings. There is an amphitheater at the Nature Center and interpretive programs on the weekends at the interpretive Center. Everything you need to have a great time!

Comment: Great for camping with kids. Really nice playground and hiking trails from easy to moderate. Facilities are very well kept with clean bathrooms. Camp sites are a good size and most have good shade from tree cover.Equestrian and RV sites are also available although, I have not personally used those facilities. The nature center is great for kids and most weekends there is typically some sort of event. A couple I have seen has been amateur astronomer night where your children can see planets and the like from nearly professional telescopes, as well as a bug night where an entomologist sets up a UV light and sheet to attract the many species of insects and identifies them; fun for the kids.

Comment: If you go during the week, it can be very peaceful, with the lack of people. However, the only time the Nature center is open is during the weekend. The Nature center also has a great view. You can still enjoy the view just outside the Nature center when its closed. There is also an old windmill and coral. Afterwards, I recommend taking the Ortega Hwy (Hwy 74) to Lake Elsinore.

Comment: Decided to spend the day at Caspers Park for a picnic on a Saturday got there about 1pm due to bad traffic, payed our $5 got a map and was advised the best picnic area was at the end of the road on the map, when we arrived there must of been about 40 horses tied up and spread out around the area, as much as I love hoses not the best place to picnic with all the dust and smells the horses created.Decided to wonder back and look for another spot, came upon another small picnic area about 5 tables that were all totally occupied with other picnickers no spots left, continued to look found another area with about 20 horse stalls spread out about 5 stalls in use, drove to the edge by the creek found a nice spot by a stall that did not appear to have been used in years, set up our picnic under a tree, and enjoyed the scenery, no one around all the occupied horse stalls were by the road.About 4pm a ranger drove by and told us this area was reserved for hoses only, we could not picnic here.We packed up and slowly drove out, as we drove I could see the ranger out of her car chit chatting with some of the horse people under the big oak trees.Very disappointed these are public lands and we should all be entitled to use all the amenities, 2 people picnicking under a tree in an area that was almost empty would leave virtually no impacted on the environment compared to all those horses, and the designated picnic area we were told to go to were full of horses???Dont bother going to Caspers for a picnic unless you bring a horse.Louis/Silvia

Comment: Very unsatisfied. Older park rangers were unkind, rude, and unaccommodating. People walked through my campsite at their lesure, and the showers were ice cold. I probably wouldve gotten over that and stayed longer, if it werent for the older park rangers who made my stay miserable. Youd think theyd be friendlier working in a beautiful environment.

Comment: Great Camping and Hiking. Each campsite has a fire pit, a standing grill, and a water spigot. The land for each site was also pretty flat and easy to find a spot to set up a tent. Would go again.

Comment: Nice place for over night camping. You are close to the Ortega, so you dont get the feeling of being disconnected. It is nice to go out and enjoy nature and do bird watching. There is a nature center that has a couple of a snakes you can pet.Best part is that its really close.

Comment: The restrooms are clean and easily accessible. The campground is a bit crowded, with other campers in eye and earshot. You dont get an isolated feeling and some of the camping areas are next to Ortega highway so you get highway noise. The nature center is fun for the whole family. They let us pet the snakes. For a weekend trip Caspers is a great way to get outdoors time on a budget.

Comment: I took a day trip here with my horse and was happy to find that the day use camp was equipped similarly to the overnight campsites with corrals, water, picnic tables and bathrooms. The trails were nice and easy to navigate. There was no running water in the creek beds (I was there in April) which made them easy to cross. I really enjoyed this park, the facilities and the trails were great. I look forward to visiting again.

Comment: Very clean area, quiet and great views. we are a group of 15 and we usually go camping together. this was a place everyone likes it. toilets and showers are clean, you can find water taps in the campground that is easy to use and you dont need to walk a long distance to get water. trash cleaned daily. very friendly park rangers, they like to help you enjoy more!!! my wife lost her camera and a park ranger named A.P. found it and took it back to her, you can feel how she made all of us happy, we had a lot of beautiful pictures in that camera. we all enjoyed our stay there.
