Important Health Guarantee Information

Did you know that dogs purchased in Pennsylvania are covered by the Pennsylvania Dog Purchaser Protection Act? This health guarantee includes the following sections that protect owners who have recently purchased a canine:

If a veterinarian determines, within 10 days of purchase, that your dog is clinically ill or has died from an injury sustained or illness likely to have been contracted on or before the date of sale and delivery, consumers have the following options:

  1. Return the dog for a complete refund;
  2. Return the dog for a replacement dog of equal value; or
  3. Retain the dog and receive reimbursement for reasonable veterinary fees.

If, within 30 days of purchase, a licensed veterinarian determines that a dog has a congenital or hereditary defect which adversely affects the animal’s health or that the dog died from a congenital or hereditary defect, consumers have the same options as outlined above.

Keep in mind that most states have similar statutes and laws that protect you regardless of whether a seller advertises a health guarantee. However, we are unable to list every state’s laws surrounding the acquisition of a puppy, so make sure to ask the breeder what type of health guarantee they offer, if any. Regardless of the state in which you live, it is important to read the breeder’s guarantee in-depth to ensure coverage, learn your state’s laws and regulations, and verify that you and your puppy meet any and all requirements.

While the PA Dog Purchaser Protection Act allows you 10 days to submit to a veterinary examination, we recommend that a licensed veterinarian check your puppy the same day you pick up him or her. It may be in your best interest to print out a copy of the law to easily reference if needed when you meet the seller to bring your puppy home.

The Truth Behind Puppy Mills

Although some people feel that purchasing puppies online is dangerous and unethical, the reality is that the Internet is bringing together families and “furever” friends now more than ever. Just as people flock to Craigslist or eBay for classified listings, Happy Valentines Day is a legal, ethical organization that can help you find the furry friend for whom you’ve been searching. Forget about the notion that all online dogs are shipped in shoeboxes; instead, remain smart and alert throughout the process. Do your research, ask questions, take precautions, and know what to look for when meeting your puppy for the first time.

Happy Valentines Day discourages you from buying a puppy from someone whom you’ve never met. Unlike other puppy classified websites, happyvalentinesday2016i.com provides advertising for breeders and licensed sellers. We feel that it is to everyone's advantage if you personally meet the parents of the puppy as well as the seller since you will be acquiring one of their dogs. Not only will you have a solid understanding of the human environment in which your puppy was raised, but you can also see the condition of the premises and the analyze the health of the litter and parents.

We encourage you to contact the sellers who have advertised with us and pay them a visit so you can see first-hand how your puppy was raised. Of course, the exception to these ideal situations would be if a breeder or seller is already state- and/or federally- licensed and inspected and you have proof of his or her certifications.

We also strongly recommend that a licensed veterinarian check your puppy within a few days of bringing him or her home. Keep in mind that if you received your puppy via an airline, it will likely already have a recently-dated health certificate. While there’s no law stating you must submit your puppy to a veterinarian examination, it is much easier to resolve potential issues right away than to wait several weeks and attempt to deal with them at a later time. The laws vary from state to state, so we recommend asking the seller what is included with the health guarantee before you commit to a purchase.

Above all, have fun! Finding a new family member is an exciting and rewarding experience, and we look forward to helping you in your search. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us, and we’ll be more than happy to help.
